The Infinitum of WordPress

I thought this was entertaining. This is the result of feeling my way around a particular snippet of code + some dummy text, within page.php (i think?) of a theme for a website I’ve been working on. So the following screenshot was the cool result, of which, really, the scrollbar became very long as the code looped into itself (sorry I don’t know how to technically describe what happened, although I do remember what I did in the code). Eventually an error popped up on my screen, and I exclaimed, “Badass! I’m gonna reload, behold, and capture.” I might look for the opportunity to purposely recreate variations of this phenomenon and get some more pix. So anyways, here…

Spyro for animation

I am developing an animation featuring spyro shapes created from my “hypotrochoid art set.” Exciting stuff, I know. Really it should be pretty fun and I hope to bring all pieces together to form a whole that’s pretty hypnotic and crazy. I plan on learning about math along the way, and already anticipate using the Fibonacci sequence in a 3d dimensional way. Here’s a small graphic pulled from After Effects that exists in 3D and will be animating today…

Layered shadows

I like this. Closeup of a piece by Donald Judd, at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

Inspiration for new portfolio

For quite a few years now I’ve been interested in repetitive patterns that spread organically on a surface or that are neatly organized symmetrically. I’m especially interested in patterns that take over a whole surface or space (for example, paper currency). I find patterns stimulating, meditative, and I believe that when the same pattern is found in very different places, it transcends cultures and is significant on a deep level.

Spiral

I created this pattern in Illustrator with a Spyro kit taped to my Wacom tablet. I’ve used a subtle version of the pattern as my portfolio background, but continue to build on the pattern in Illustrator. To me, the strength of vector objects lie in their infinite, scale-less nature, so I may be creating mega-zoom movies with these images in After Effects in the future.

Adios old portfolio!

The new version of my website is now live. Before switching over, I took a few screenshots of my old portfolio site that I may never see working again, so here’s just one:

Old portfolio website
As you can see, my new site is quite a contrast to the old portfolio. Adios old site!
